Ever-expanding
raindrops dot the pond – nature’s
pointillistic piece.

Day one twenty six
and still not fixed but my
reluctance has come undone.

Lunch with an old friend.
Feasting on conversation,
we almost forgot to eat.

When things didn’t work out
as I thought they should,
I controlled the thing I could
and did my exercise routine.
My mood lifted and the day shifted
just by doing this one small thing.

The sky’s a pastel
swirl as day bids goodbye on
this long solstice night.

So, the rich get more
and the rest get less in this
Republican Christmas gift?
In the distance do I hear
angels singing loud and clear,
“When will they ever learn?

I didn’t listen
to the voice in my head
that said, “Have a very
merry Christmas
and take a break
til the New Year.”
I gave myself the gift
of persistence instead.
