A Day In The Life Of A Pond

Once the surface rippled

from the landing of a bird,

a breeze’s gentle touch,

a pebble tossed.

Now the pond holds firm and frozen,

moved no longer by such actions.

Soon  the sun will work its magic

and the pond’s potential

to be ruffled by

such meetings

will slowly be restored.

Day 123 One, Two, Three – Go

Exercise – a nice

warm-up on a cold day –

a needed jump start

                                                                                                                                                          JDG

War Of The Lists

Got a list of gripes,

another of gratitudes.

Which will win the day

depends solely on the mood

of this aging list keeper.

What It Took

It didn’t take a bonfire to bring

much-needed warmth

to this cold

winter

night.

It

only

took one bloom

from that Christmas

Cactus to warm us all with pink delight.

A Stone’s Throw

 Ignoring a wall

built with hard stones of  difference,

he offered comfort

born from a suffering shared

and the perspective it brings.

Circular Motion

Round and round she goes,

this kitten, chasing her tail,

and even when she

momentarily grabs on,

it’s not for long, much like us.

Mottled

On my morning drive to work,

past mottled fields of snow

beneath a mottled sky,

I reflect on the mottled nature of things.

No matter how much we long for purity,

life on this earth is a mottled affair

 and so are we.
