Those wild geese created quite a flap
down at the pond.
Just minutes
before,
all
was
serene,
but once they
landed honking
and shaking, turtles, sun, and silence fled.

Sitting on the dock
with baited hooks and breath,
they wait.
The day grows hot,
they grow bored and decide
to lure the fish with songs instead.

Five friends, who don’t share
common ground on politics
or religion, meet,
as they do most every week,
and swap stories, share
small triumphs and defeats,
shore each other up,
and find common ground through the
love of laughter they all share.

the universe sends my way.
“This 2” it says and I reply,
“Could you give it a second try
and send me a winning lottery ticket instead?

At last the ground is being prepared and
some good seeds found

Then, if
we
just
weed and
water them,

I pause before that
green door, wanting to open
it, wanting to pass
on through to the life-giving
source within. What must
I first put down before I
take that golden knob in hand?

That sudden splash of
orange is not a hunter’s
hat. It’s a vine in
its natural habitat
slowly creeping up on trees.

Every time I go
off course, my GPS says,
“Recalibrating”
and guides me back. That’s what prayer
and meditation do too.

and so
deep
’cause
lately
it’s had to
work really hard
to tumble smooth all the rocks I’ve tossed in.

(See the poem, The Pact, posted on July 9 if further clarification is needed.)
A rooster crows as
a certain slant of light strikes
the trees, igniting
a slowly spreading fire
across the shimmering pond.
