Strange Affinities

Cawing crows and me

have an odd affinity.

After my last big-to-do

they stopped by

to let me know

I’d officially become a crow.

When I said  a dove

was more what I was aiming for,

they cocked their heads and cawed some more.

What Holds

Hard ground, dark night

Slowly rising moon cradles

runaway child.

Moon rises, moon descends.

Years pass, moon still holds.

When The Sun Shines Full

When the sun shines full

in the clearest of skies on

this cold winter day,

May I not turn to

thoughts of cloudy, sun-less days

of another time.

May I stand, instead, with arms

outstretched and embrace

this one perfect moment of

this one cloudless, perfect day.

Unextreme Wisdom?

Not too little, not

too much – just enough – is that

where contentment lies?

For What It’s Worth

Sitting at this intersection watching

the traffic come

and go, I

reflect

on

all

causes

and all past

conditions that

brought precisely us, precisely now, to

this exact place –

folks, cars, lights,

road, trees,

me.

One

tiny

change over

time and all would

be other than it is right here, right now.

A Bit Of Nonsense

A bit of nonsense

is better than none, or so

I tell myself  when

the kids’ silliness won’t stop

and I’m about to

blow my top. A gaggle of

giggles sure beats tears

though high-pitched whinnying and

loud guffaws do give me pause.

For Our Mother

Let us not sell out

this ensouled planet which we

have come to call home.

~

May we instead bring to bear

our resources in service

 to our mother

and all others whose space we share.

Shielded Conversation

Those windshield wipers

repeated the same old phrase

over and over

again even after I

told them I just did not care.

Is It Enough?

Inexplicably

happy and at other times

inexplicably

sad – what is to be made of

these feelings that come

for a while and then just disappear?

Is it enough to just sit with them,

compassionate and aware?

First Fire

Even though the house

is already warm, season’s

first fire chases

away another kind of

cold as old and young,

cats and dogs, grouchy and glad

gather around together.
