Time Out

As a prisoner

of my personality,

sometimes the only

thing that can set me straight is

solitary confinement.

Words Not Spoken

Sometimes it’s enough

to find an unexpected

solidarity

in a brief meeting of eyes,

an awareness shared,

and the possibility

of a discussion to come.

This Young One

This young one who took

my face into her small hands

at age two, looked me

in the eye and said, ” I told

you. People weak.” turned

 eighteen today and is as

wise and wonderful as then.

Sun Seekers, Unite

There must be some sun

hidden away on this grey,

rain-soaked day. If we’re

patient enough and watchful

perhaps we’ll even find it.

Authentically Grey

Seeking a simple

clarity we fail to see

the grey essentials,

the nuanced components of

a life lived authentically.

Upon Further Consideration

Now that the cold’s come

I’d like to reconsider

my former complaints.

Let’s let bygones be bygones

and invite the warm days back.

Do It Yourself

Self-created suffering made easy:

believe the worst

of others

and of

your

self,

don’t count

your blessings,

let things fester,

repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat.

                                                                                                                                            JDG

Awakening

The hills lie waiting

for the first warm kiss of sun

as moon pines away.

Flurries

A flurry of snow –

kids’ and parents’ hearts both miss

a beat on the kids’

first day back at school, but for

very different reasons.

A Matter Of Position

Though the evening stars

beckon and the moon invites,

on cold nights like this

I would prefer not to be

on the outside looking in.
