Early Warning System

Every home needs a

tail-wagging early warning

system to alert

occupants to impending

doom. We’ve been shielded

from low-flying crows, jogging

neighbors, sunflowers

bending in the wind, grazing

deer, meandering

trash cans, and UPS trucks

too numerous to

mention. With routine

care and attentive maintenance,

you can be protected too.

Body Talk

An eye infection?

What is my body telling

me? Is there something

amiss with how I’m seeing?

Could I have an “I”

infection? Or could it be

I just have an allergy?

That Too

Let’s celebrate when

we live in light, and honor

when we have the heart

to keep watch through what seems to

be a never-ending night.

Long Distance

A lone duck calls. No

answer comes. She swims and waits,

then wings her way home.

Revelation Continued

That squirrel came back for

another try and this time

it was do or die.

By turning his world upside

down and hanging most

precariously, he dined.

The pleasure must have

been all in the doing ’cause

he’s not returned for more chewing.

A Squirrelly Revelation

Again and again

he tried to get that dangling

sack of birdseed ’til

at last, his tail aswish, he

turned aside, seeming to

see all this effort was not

for him. It was for the birds.

Immediate Forecast

Splash of salmon on

horizon’s edge – sun’s promise

on a cloud-filled day

When Realization Comes

Take one breath and then

another. No word need be

spoken, no action

taken ’til I get this act

of conscious breathing

down…or so I thought until

the realization

came and I understood I

may not speak or act again.

Muted Melody

light hush of snow, bare

whisper of breeze – lullabye

for a tired soul
