I wake up, look out, and sadly, see rain.
Then, I open
the door and
hear birds
sing.

Even though I know
the grandkids are humoring me,
I’m grateful they’re willing
to let me be me
and work with and around

We’re here right now in this present moment
a small fraction

practice patience, acceptance,
and calm abiding,
yet I seldom pass go as
I move backward, fail to slow.

“why”, and turned my attention
to “what”, “where”, and “how”.

When discomfort grows, why keep walking in
tired old shoes
on paths so
over
trod?

She sits and feeds,
strong and serene,
as squirrels
squabble
in the midst of plenty.
