A Small Rabbit Sits

A small rabbit sits

amidst the white blooms of tall

clover as the sun

begins to crest the dew-kissed

hills and catches daisy’s eye.

An Unexpected Gift

There’s something about

the seventies that brings a strange satisfaction.

Small pleasures grow large

while superficial worries shrink.

This expanded gift of time,

not to be spent or merely passed,

is opened and treasured as

the unforeseen present it is.

The Driver And The Driven

My son, her uncle, has taken over

teaching her to

drive. He said

she’s learned

all

she

needs to

know about

driving with an

edgy geriatric riding shotgun.

A Whole Lot Of Talking Going On

Judging from the sounds

that fill the air, the birds have

quite a lot to say,

but, like us, it’s hard to know

 if they do much listening.

Quite A Collection

It’s quite a collection, this,

of dogs and cats and books and kids,

of doors opened and doors closed,

of dripping faucets and weeds grown tall,

of hummingbirds and cawing crows,

of wasps and bees and peonies

and, of course, there’s always George,

the fish who’s been caught many times –

all these make up the collected works called HOME.

Those Victories

No trophies are handed out,

no newspaper columns are written,

no photographs are ever taken,

yet those small, silent victories,

though unseen, bear noticing.

Stumble, Bumble, Then Retrace

I stumbled again today

as I do most every day.

Not for me is that easy flow,

that walk of grace.

No,  for me it’s stumble,

bumble, then retrace.

Acceptance is what I need

and what I hope to embrace.

Room Enough

They don’t seem to mind.

 Several conversations

are being held at

once. Raspy caws mingle with

high pitched trills and an

occasional joyful chirp.

Even the bees join

in and add their buzz. Out here,

it seems, there’s plenty

of room for many voices

to sing all their different songs.

When Sparrow Comes To Call

When sparrow comes to call,

 peering at us

through plates of window glass,

we take note.

Turning to books of lore,

we learn this small,

almost insignificant bird

is said to have been

the only bird present at Christ’s crucifixion,

thus becoming a symbol

of triumph after long-suffering.

His visit helps us

 find both meaning and hope.

From On High

The sky poured forth both

sunlight and rain, promising

rainbows, offering

the luminous, gifting us

this day with cleansing and hope.
