What is it about
mourning doves that makes them think
they own the road? Crows
and even turkey vultures

Tricksters they might really be, these ever
present crows with
whom I share
this space.
Their
caws
have come
to be a
dark delight and

It’s a simple thing

Flowers at play.

On the gravel road
a butterfly hovers close

as they discover things long
lost and clutch them to their chests.
