This day has been just a breath away from
frustration, a
sigh away
from mad,
a
shrug
away
from anger,
a tear away
from sad. Please don’t say it could well be worse.

If the sky we stand
beneath is large enough to
hold us and all our
differences, can I stand my
ground and keep an open heart?

“We think in generalities, but we
live in detail,”
Lord Whitehead
said and
he
spoke true.
Just today
I thought of world

pointillistic leaves
against a watercolor sky –
autumn morning glows

Southbound geese collide
with incoming cawing crows.

“I’m not young enough,”
J.M. Barrie said, ” to know
everything.” I take
comfort from his words living
as I do with two
eye-rolling teenagers and
a preteen still in training.

Each sunset closes
the day in its own way.
One goes out in a blaze of color,
another in a gradual fade.
Of the many ways to enter night,
may I choose the one that, for me, is right.

I was tired but instead of a nap
I decided
to catch a
poem
right
there,
right then..
At first not
a nibble – til
I hauled in this strange and struggling catch.

It’s hard to juggle
when you’re the ball and don’t know
who the juggler is.
~
As long as I’m here
in the air, my only hope
is that the juggler’s good.

Little did I know back then how little
I really knew.
I guess I’m
growing
more
wise
day by
day, week by
week, year by year
as the little I know becomes more clear.

In gray mist suffused
with gold, first frost meets final
fire just as day
opens up, gathers us in,
bringing greeting and farewell.
