It must be true love,
I thought, to happily pass
up her prom to join
that young man and his father
and go fishing in the rain.

Each in its own time –
tree and flower, shrub and bush
come forth. Even vines
know when to entwine. No need
to push the endless wheel of time

Caught off guard by the Universe, I laugh
at what is sent
unbidden.
It must
be
this
wild
Universe
knows me better
than I know myself and enjoys my laugh.

From pink to green in less than a week-
those cherry trees don’t cling
to the fullness of their blossoming.
They let go and move on with grace

Every year my yard
ignores my sage advice and
invites those pesky
dandelions to settle
in, saying Nature
knows more than I can even
guess. This year, with a
nod to my aching back and
knees, I give in and say “yes”.

“the fault, dear mother, lies not
with your eyes but with
the one who somehow said that
purple blooming tree is red.”

The Universe sent
me a brief, after-dinner
wink last night when I
opened my fortune cookie,
pulled out the tiny
slip and read, “The fortune you
seek is in another cookie.”

Against that stark field,
Spring has embroidered golden
flowers and pink trees.

What is this strange calm
that’s settled upon our house?
A National Day of Silence?
And three young girls
giving it a try?
Wonders surely never cease.
