It’s A Sign

Poets ignore those

no trespassing signs and write

their way into life.

~

Faced with bird droppings,

the poet works  to turn poo

into poetry.

Just Wondering

That sudden ruckus could not be missed –

croaks, caws, and beating wings –

a shattered  peace.

The day had started serene enough –

a quiet drive,

through tree-lined hills –

and then – this angry cacophony

of pursuing crows and fleeing hawk

  whose crime remains unknown.

I wonder.

Could this be a synchronistic reminder

to avoid squawk radio or…

how we, as a community, might chase off hawks?

All The Buzz

An outdoor cafe

where bees and butterflies dine –

 a mid-day repast

for all who find their way to

these sun-lit golden tables.

To Wail Or Not To Wail

That young child held nothing back

when he let out

penetrating

wails of protest.

Might he have a thing or two to

teach us about

the value of

self-expression

Or should he learn the sturdy worth

of self-restraint?

Our choice reveals

more than we think.

Midsummer Night’s Dream?

He goes with her to

an outdoor Shakespeare play. She

goes with him to a

monster truck rally. Is this

much ado about nothing?

Nursery Whines

After the sky fell,

Chicken Little looked up, sighed,

asked herself, “What’s next?”

Why the curds and whey?”

Travelers’ Refuge

“Just passing through,” they said, these winged guests

Black and White

South Carolina –

a black policeman gently helps

an elderly white

supremacist at flag protest

out of blazing sun,

guides him to shade and water –

a study in black and white.
