One by one those jays
approach, heads turning this way
and that. It’s clear they’re
on a mission as they draw
ever near. One quick
swoop followed by another
and, poof, the cat’s bowl is clear.

It’s always the same,
the feeling I get on that
final turn toward home –
no matter if the sweet scent
of honeysuckle
or the smell of burning logs
fills the air. The moon
may be a sliver, the day
overcast or lit
with sun, I may have been gone
a moment or not
been home for weeks, but always
I feel lucky and give thanks.

Out at sea, porpoises grin
at this day’s opening act.

comfort in nature
until her younger sister
mentioned the falling bird poo.

If we really believe all lives matter,
wouldn’t our words
and actions
be ones
of
deep
respect?
Wouldn’t we
take the time to
listen before we judge or scold or preach?

Today’s poetic offering
began with a whole lotta bitchin’
but when the blue streak lifted,
the view was clearer.

For a few hours
I whisper sweet nothings in
silence’s cocked ear.

It’s the first day of vacation and we’re
at ocean-side,
light-hearted,
relaxed,
free.
