Before acceptance –
noticing,
breathing deep,
opening

Unknowns,
great and small,
accompany us
throughout our day.
Still,
we reach for
certainties,
however brief.

Water droplets hang
from sun-lit juniper trees
– diamonds in the rough.

After days of rain
and hearing my complaints, she
said,” Why not think of
rain as living water?” For
a moment that worked,
but soon I wished it would move
on and go live somewhere else.

Far away and yet
so close – people and places
held in memory

On this rain-soaked day
tiny bits of lavendar
and small buttercups
watch as blackberry bush gives
thorny shelter to a baby rabbit.

threaten to swamp,
it’s prudent
to drop anchor,
breathe,
and ride things out.
