Through A Glass Darkly

“Wait and see,” they say,

but I don’t even know what

to be looking for.

Many Voices, Different Songs

Were they singing hymns

to the day or complaining

about the weather,

those birds this morning? Though not

united, their voice was strong.

We Give Thanks

The sun, holding nothing back, casts its light

on all below

and we give

thanks, but

when

glare

blinds and

heat grows strong

we are grateful

for soft clouds and their gentle tempering.

A Guest Post By Cynthia Schmitz

~
A hummingbird stopped me
Fluttering wings whirring in my path
It turned and looked me in the eye as if to say,
“You have fed me all these years, and now you stop?”
My soul stops me in the same way
Fluttering wings whirring within me
Opening me to the truth of my neglect
I replaced the hummingbird feeder today
And today I return to feeding my soul
That is the way the world works
Neglect of another mirrors neglect of self
Tend to yourself, and tend to the world
Both must be fed

Invictus Ignored

Before I could seize

the day, the day seized me. Did

it not hear me say

I was master of my fate

and the captain of my soul?

Circular Question

How many times

can we circle back

and try again

before dizziness descends?

Summer Longing

If only reason

and love spread as fast as this

rain-soaked summer grass.

The Heart Of Summer

Hot days, storm filled nights –

the heart of summer

continues its steady beat

Animal Wisdom

My dog Jimmy has not followed

the RNC or DNC on tv,

but even he

 knows we cope with storms

much better when we’re united and together.

A Telling Moment

Facing the chasm

we ourselves dug, we are brought

up short. We must choose.

Do we walk away, holding

on to grievances

or do we look within, look

across and begin.

It won’t be easy. We’ll mess

up, but together

we can begin…and we do.

With memories, song,

and laughter we start to build

a bridge for crossing

and show our children and our

children’s children who we can be
