Rooster, what are you
crowing about? Your sun is
setting, your chickens
are coming home to roost, and
the much-maligned foxes wait.

On the far horizon,
past the dark clouds overhead,
sun-lit clouds softly rest.
Moving toward the promise of
those sun-lit clouds,
I hope the worst’s behind us.

When cruel words don’t count
and past actions don’t matter,
what have we become?

Just imagine if
there were a magical switch
and Trump’s words and his
manner of delivery
came from a female
and Clinton’s from a male? What
if they belonged to
no political party?
How would they then be assessed?

A slight shimmer spreads
across the pond. The sun casts
a gentle, golden
light. The only storm that struck
came entirely
from within. May I learn to
stand strong and gentle.
May I hold the doors of my
heart open and with
each hesitant breath, invite
the winds of truth to blow through.

into small, hard knots and sink
though a wordless
sea of love surrounds us,
ready to carry us to a distant shore.

Two days before me
with nothing that must be done,
nowhere I must go,
no one I must see – two whole
days to breathe, rest, and just be.

This morning the birds
wouldn’t stop talking. Even
the bees had their buzz,
not to mention the crickets
with their endless chirps.
I decided to add my
two-cents worth of words
to this wild chatter, but
breakfast’s call silenced it all.

Misty
morning
mirrors
my
musty
mind.
