An Ounce Of Grace – Day 45

What a difference

one day can make. Yesterday

I became aware

of pounds of tension everywhere.

Today I felt an ounce of grace.

Now And Always

Before “will be”

and after “was”

lies the limitless now

inviting us to return home

from nonexistent lands.

What And How – Day 44

Keeping a relaxed focus is tough.

There’s something

in me that tenses or just checks out.

I’m going

to try to notice not only

what I’m doing, but also how.

A More Perfect Union

Amid loud voices

near the statue of Robert E. Lee,

two men, one white, one black.

one for, one against,

one a plumber, the other a coach

speak of the history that brings them there.

For fifteen minutes

they listen and speak

and when their conversation ends,

they shake hands and briefly hug,

having acknowledged their differences

and embraced their shared humanity.

If they can do it, so can we.

Before the Sun Rises

May we share this sacred time and place Dennis Ference brings to us..

Each day, before the sun rises
I cast my lot with the believers–
those who have come to know
that there is a Source within
from which all things emerge,

which does not play
by our rules and constraints.
It is Mystery, sometimes
soothing mother, often
maddening jokester,
always larger than our vision
of what it should be.

When I awake, the birds
are still voiceless, the streets
not yet in rhythm with the duties
and desires of their denizens.
I sip from a steaming cup
to melt away the remnants
of the night’s lethargy and
burrow slowly into the stillness
of naked Being where
I listen and wait.

This is the place where
deeper meanings are discerned
and commitments are forged.
This is the place where healings
are announced and poems
are conceived. And for those
who would bow and surrender,
this is the grace of the Sacred
Now—divine…

All In Good Time

Some of us are slow

learners, which makes me grateful

that I’ve been given

seventy plus years to learn

what my granddaughter knew at two.

Day 42 – But Who’s Counting?

I am, that’s who,

but exactly why I am not sure.

Perhaps in giving each day a number,

I can see more clearly

where I am and how far I’ve come.

Morning News

Out of the mist, dark

crows emerge, loudly cawing.

They definitely

do not believe in keeping

their opinions to themselves.
