While exercising today
I gently turn my focus away
from just getting it done.
I turn my attention, instead,
to how my body feels
as I move and breathe
and, I must say,
it is easier and a bit more fun.

Sometimes when I need it the most,
the right book appears,
the right song plays,
the right person calls,
or at just the right moment
a car passes and its license plate
makes me smile.
Maybe it’s happenstance
and maybe it’s not.
Either way, I give thanks
for the timely arrival
of unexpected grace.

Yesterday I took a day off
because I wanted to not do.
Today I began again
because I wanted to.
No need to justify or defy –
just breathe, choose, abide
and, when needed, rectify.

I wrap myself in
burnished hues of gold and bronze –
Fall’s comforting cloth.
On the horizon
an orange tinged sky proclaims,
“Let the witches take
a furtive flight so they can
be ready Halloween night!”

Someday the reward
may be in the doing,
but for now it’s in having done.

Mostly I’m in the world and out of it.
Every now and
then, all of
me is
here.
JDG
Am I having fun?
That’s a stretch too far, but
I’m hanging in
and that’s good enough for me.

Yesterday I was in a fog
and let my exercises go,
but today I doubled down
and doubled up and so
I had a harder row to hoe.

Unlimited time
awaits us, as Thich Nhat Hanh’s
friend Allen shared.
We just have to quit dividing time
into ours and theirs.
