They came dancing in,
those dark-haired twins, ages three
or so, and gave each
of us in the bank a hug.
We all left feeling richer.

If only the flab
would melt as fast as the snow…
If only I had
started sooner…but here I
am now with renewed resolve.

Lingering snow, its cold beauty gone, can’t
accept its time
has passed. It
still hangs
on.

Sometimes it’s not fun,
but I always feel better
when I’m finally done.

No cold snap this – more
like an icy thunderbolt
echoing too long.

My tongue is raw from biting;
my cheeks swell with
unsolicited, sage advice.
True, I do very little talking.
My granddaughter,
in turn, does very little balking.
Our lunch together is
an unreal, but satisfying, success.

Perhaps soon the prose
of exercise will become
the poetry of motion.

Seized by inertia.
Don’t know if it’s that I’m old
or just freezing cold.
