Blessed silence was with me
as I exercised today.
Even my own mind kept
wordy thoughts at bay.

My granddaughter Sami says
she hasn’t given up hope
that I might become
more like the grandmothers
she’s read about in books,
seen in movies and on tv.
She hasn’t given up hope
that I’ll put away
my swear words coloring book,
don a flowered apron,
and make batches of cookies
as uplifting music softly plays.

Without leaving home,
I find myself in a foreign
land without a map.
JDG
A cold start, but
halfway through I felt a spark.
Can’t say I’m on fire,
but in time, a flame could dance.

” Look,” my granddaughter said,
pointing to clouds in the morning sky.
“There’s a lavender chicken
watching us from up on high.
I know you’re into signs
and portents and stuff,
but what do you make
of that piece of fluff?”
” Ah,” I said, looking wise,
“that’s nature warning
us not to take drugs.”
She looked at me with
rolling eyes and heaved
a long and purple sigh.

Some days are easy.
some days are hard. With gentle
care I stay on track.

I gather my scattered thoughts,
my troubled feelings
and invite them to ride
the wave of my breath.
In time, they slowly relax
and become part of the wave itself.

This rainy morning
I want to go back to bed.
Choose to exercise instead.
JDG
Another dead end…
and a chance to turn around,
find a different way.
JDG
Monday morning has
arrived and so have I. Would
you believe at exercise?
