Is that Butterweed
dancing along roads, across
fields in morning mist,
telegraphing Fall’s approach,
lending color to fog’s gray?

Making a big to-do over having
too much to do
doesn’t help
me get
things
done;
instead
I come more
undone. I sigh
and slowly let the sunrise steady me.

When it’s hot
but not as humid,
I sigh with relief,
grateful not to be
quickly drenched
in water of
my own making.
JDG
A small frog
paid us a house call today,
but when he met our kitten,
he hopped away.
JDG
Sometimes anxiety seizes and shakes,
turns us into
a frothing,
foaming
mess.
If
we pause,
let ourselves
witness and wait,
a slow settling could leave us more clear..

After a day packed
with this, that, and the other,
I gratefully leave
the packing to someone else
and begin the slow unpacking of
my over-traveled soul.

Assume the best while
preparing for the worst –
a paradoxical union
that can let us approach
the future with calm clarity.

The number of times
I’ve gotten in my own way?
I’ve lost count. Better
to focus not on counting
but on recalibrating.

That small tree must be
type A. It sure got the jump
on all the other
trees and coaxed its green leaves to
begin turning red today.
