A glimpse is enough
to let us know
a different world exists
permeating the world we know.
Spacious, nonjudgmental, and serene,
it is in all of us. May we live
in this awareness – our one true home.

That tree outside my window lost a branch
before the wind
gained any
sway. Was
this
a
way of
offering
up a part of
itself to honor nature’s larger whole?

I must confess that sometimes
I become enchanted
with my own cleverness
and lose sight of the fact
you aren’t as enamored as I.

Tonight I rejoice in the evening sun.
I don’t know what
tomorrow
will bring,
but
for

celebrate
what is right here –
rolling green pastures lit with shining sun.

They must have heard it’s
about to rain cats and dogs,
because my two cats
and my two dogs have been on
their very best behavior.

I’ve considered the lilies of the field.
I want to grow
more like them
and not
spin
tales

me anxious.
I suspect I’ll
have to toil in a way lilies don’t.

“What’s the rush?”
I ask myself.
Without thinking I’ve gulped the cultural adrenaline.
It’s time
I pause
and sip
a different
drink.

Note to my despairing self:
It’s better to have learned late
than never to have learned at all.

Life’s agenda does
not match our own. We do our
best to curtail sharp
turns, unanticipated
events. Life smiles
at our plans and offers up
a range of alternatives

At day’s end I rest, knowing my efforts
weren’t perfect, but
I did what
I could
do.
