Creeping Kudzu of the mind – fear, worry,
blame – chokes out old
growth, smothers
new, slides
from
mind
to mind,
leaving no
room for the green
of love, acceptance, or wisdom to grow.

Sun drenched branches
dance in rhythm
with the passing breeze,
softening edges,
lifting spirits,
bringing ease.

What happened a year,
a day, a moment ago
is not what’s happening now.
From each moment why not
take what serves us best
and gently leave behind the rest?

Every now and then,
actually more then than now,
we surprise ourselves
and spontaneously act

of fixed ideas, activities, and things
leaves space to watch life unfold
without a need to grasp or hold.
In letting go we are filled
and from this place, vast and still,
we make our final offerings.

Yesterday’s puddles

If I didn’t judge
the path, myself, or fellow

When the path gets rough,
the kindness of friends
gives us the strength
to keep on walking.

Though her car is totaled
and several bones are broken,
her sense of humor is intact.
I knew she was on the way to recovery
when she announced “I’ll never
again say I’d do anything
to not have to vacuum.”

After spending a day and a half
focused on getting things done,
I realized I was on the run
from troubling uncertainty.
It’s so much easier
to run on the solid ground
of daily tasks than to swim
in the uncertain sea
of worrisome possibility.
I don’t yet know how
to move from land and sea
to land and see.
