stilling night’s shivers –
nature’s subtle suggestion
that we spread, not cold, but warmth.

Tonight’s sunset makes up tor the fading
colors of fall
and brightens
muted
moods.

Before leaf blowers
there were rakes, harder on backs,
easier on ears.
Raking affected only
the raker; blowers are hard
on everyone’s ears.
To leaf rakers everywhere,
I offer thanks and a cheer.

lit by a far-off sun.
We too can be filled with light
from wise words spoken long ago.

means getting new tires and

her habitual road of
doing what she trained to do.

recently lost – my glasses,
keys, temper, and mind.

On every other
day of the year, thanks flows forth
in the moment, but
on this day, preparation
is a must. Thought has
to be given to who, what,
where, and when to give
thanks. At last it is done; then
free-flowing gratitude comes.
