A warmer climate
of the heart accompanied
by a cooler head –
a much needed gift we each
could give to the world this year.

At our house it’s not
silent night although maybe
when the kids depart
quiet will again descend,
but for now it’s noisy joy.

Nothing witty or
profound was said, but at lunch
both our souls were fed.

On the pond’s frozen,
fractured surface sunlight danced.
We stood in silence,
enjoying the sparks that flew
from sun’s encounter with ice.

Little fox, were you
running from something
or toward something
when you tried to cross the road?

Sometimes you receive the just right book at
the just right time.
This was one
of those
books.

Silently they move
toward the Bethlehem of our
hearts- these yearnings for
a new testament of love.
May they find a dwelling place.

At the close of day
a chorus of bare branches
sings to a tangerine sky.
JDG
Even red traffic lights are welcome in
the rainy, grey
haze of this
busy
day.

COMFORT MEMORY
I feel you today, your face sliding over mine.
Your quiet sadness and detachment
while you sit and peel potatoes,
next to me at the table
in our yellow kitchen with the tv on.
I watch your hands deftly work,
feel you holding my hand as we cross the street
to the safety of the other side.
Those hands oft ignored, yet working so hard
gifting me, us with your strength
guidance and love.
I held your hand as you took your last breath
still feeling warm, soft and giving.
My heart sings with this hold
I still have
of you.
