Heart, mind , and sprit
blend effortlessly and leave
the body deeply content.

Rushing can make me
lose time – a lesson I had
to relearn today.

Fire flies, blinking
beacons of lively light, end
the day, welcome night.

Observing our own thoughts and feelings
without judgement
takes patience and practice,
but, ah the difference it can make.

Every evening
they go for a leisurely stroll,
that doe and fawn.
Like us, they have their daily rituals.

At the end of a word-filled day,
I find a simple comfort
in watching the wordless creatures
who share this land with me.

That blue-tailed skink
has put on quite a performance,
bringing an iridescent glow
to our otherwise dull porch
and giving Knox and the cats a thrill.

Now more than ever before,
I’m a thinker in search of a thought,
a poet in search of a poem,
and oddly content
even when nothing is found.

Green branches sway
against a cloudless blue sky.
Wild strawberries glisten
in the newly mowed lawn –
a perfect venue for
this interspecies gathering
of birds and butterflies,
rabbits and deer,
and the omnipresent squirrels.
