Looked out my window
at the dancing butterflies
sipping butterfly wine.
Just a short glimpse was enough
to overflow my cup.

To be greeted by
a tail wagging bundle of
enthusiasm
is an invitation to
put down work and pick up play.

My small story
is only part
of a much larger one.
When I’m open to both,
compassion can enter.

Those towering trees
have weathered so many storms,
their survival due,
in part, to having deep roots
and knowing how and when to bend.

The sudden downpour
on my way home couldn’t
dampen my spirits
after a satisfying
afternoon spent with a friend.

The morning after last night’s storm
butterflies flew among sun-lit flowers,
we gathered fallen limbs,
squirrels leapt between branches,
and birds returned to the feeder.
Things are different, and yet the same.
JDG
Every night we play
the same old toss and fetch game
and never once has
Knox grown tired before me.
Ah, to be young and a dog…

Be on the lookout
for small kindnesses. You’ll find
more than you looked for.

With a happy lilt
birds greet the gentle stillness
following the storm.
Though more storms will surely come,
they welcome the peace that’s now.
