Anticipating
storm’s afternoon arrival,
people strip the shelves
and hurry home to await
the year’s much hailed first snow flake.

A tightly clenched fist
can give us the illusion
that we’re holding back
when it’s far more likely that
we’re just trying to hold on.

Every night the trees
frantically sway in the wind
as lightening flashes
and water pours from the sky.
We’d welcome a change of scene.

The clouds aren’t smiling
this morning, but also they
are not shedding tears.
It looks like it’s going to
be a real blah kind of day.

After I goofed up
several times in a row, I took
myself aside for
some words of encouragement
and some much needed rest.

Minutes pass before
Knox notices the squirrel.
Then the chase begins
as the indoor cats critique
his every move and technique.

Small, baby rabbit,
you made a good choice when you
decided not to cross
the road. I can assure you,
things aren’t better over there.

peace visited her and she
had the sense to ask
it to linger and to think,
perhaps, about moving in.

squirrel prefers to
dine upside down, thus taunting
the cats watching through the glass.
