These rainy days aren’t
meant for dancing even if
you’re the dancing kind.
Let’s wait for the storm to pass
then dance shoeless in the grass.

More often than not,
I’m the oldest in the room.
I try hard to look
patient and wise, but they look
surprised that I’m still alive.
JDG
There’s plenty of food,
but the jays apparently
are in a bad mood
and causing a flurry of
winged fight at the bird feeder.
JDG
It wasn’t too long,
just a few seconds really,
that that wee, yellow
bird dined before those blue jays
arrived and chased her away
JDG
Unfortunately,
Knox never met a creature
he didn’t invite
to romp and play as he did
yesterday when we got skunked.
JDG
No sun overhead,
but a tiny yellow bird
sits on the porch rail,
and with a toss of its head,
flings us kernels of delight.
JDG
Judging from the whines
and moans. Knox is filing yet
another complaint
with the universe over
my failure to heed his pleas.
JDG
After a lifetime
of service, it can be hard
to see your best way
to serve is to step aside
and make room for another.
JDG
When our hearts and minds
disagree, it helps if we
can find a way for
both of them to open up
and try to hear each other.
JDG
In my rush I can
fail to see the beseeching
eyes of Knox. He then
throws in a few pitiful
moans and, if all else fails, barks.
