Those two cats think
they’re so smart,
but they simply can not bark,
and when I give
them a playful sniff,
all they do is hiss, hiss, hiss.
I know it takes all kinds,
but with those cats
I draw the line.

wagged his tail,
and brought them
back one by one,
happy I joined
in his fun.

It’s held on through many a storm.
The time will come when it lets go,
but for now it remains
with the family from which it sprang.

It’s not that my world
has grown smaller
or my pleasures thinner,
it’s just that as I grow older,
I have come to enjoy
life on a smaller scale.

I swept the porch, but
later a tiny bird came
to help with some fallen seed.
