With a simple movement
of the tongue,
the sweet sound of silence
disappeared and in its place
inanity twittered.

The empty road called out,
asking to be
the one more traveled by
It glistened in the sun
when the young boy
jumped on his bike,
making it the chosen one.

Awake before sunrise,
I begin my morning chores
to the sweet sound of silence,
the day’s cacophony yet to begin.

Tiny bits of green
peek out from outstretched branches
testing if the time
is right for them to spring forth
and grace us with their presence.
