struggle to come to terms
each finds acceptable.

That crow’s persistent call
invited me to see
he needed to be fed.
Once this was done,
he flapped his wings
with pleasure.

flits and flirts among
pink blossoms damp
from morning rain.

Leaves sprout and fall.
Breath moves in and out.
Flowers bloom and fade.
Hearts beat and stop.

to bring splashes of color
to rainy spring days
and were soon invited for
an extended dalliance.

A small fish swims near
the pond’s shore then suddenly
turns and swims away.
Was it answering a call
my human ears could not hear?

A scattering of
buttercups steals my sad thoughts
and replaces them with gold.

I don’t know what I did,
but it must have been
very wrong ’cause
that bluejay’s staring
right at me
and going on and on.
