I put out the food,
but nature has the final
say on who will dine
and when today. Woodpeckers,
squirrels, cardinals, and jays,
juncos, doves, and chickadees
all drop by and enjoy.

I am filled with delight
as I sit and watch and wait.

Don’t you love it when all the precious animals come to dine? I watch from my kitchen window when mom and dad cardinal wash themselves in my bird bath. And then fly off to be clean when they start building their nest for the babies. It almost makes me want to cry.
