Out Here Among The Trees

Out here among the trees

time is measured by the sun,

by the comings and goings of butterflies,

by the arrival and departure of birds,

by the waning and waxing moon,

by the slow shift of seasons.

Out here among the trees

everything has its own pace

and even the rats haven’t learned to race.

Out here among the trees

I slowly settle into place.
