Rocky starts can make
for rough going unless we
find another way.

Rest stops let us pause
to recalibrate before
we reach a dead end.

Sunny day, cloudless
sky lure us out. Bitter cold,
biting wind send us
in. Should we leave or should we
stay – life’s questions posed today.

I watched them watch each other –
this young girl and her beau –
each hoping to see in the other
the joy they felt themselves
as they planned their Valentines.
Smiles mingled with gentle tears as
they saw their hopes fulfilled.
The joy and smiles were theirs;
the joy and tears were mine.

The universe has
very wide sleeves and always
seems to have a card
or two hidden from view. Just
when we think the game
is ours, the universe plays
a wild card and makes hay.

A world turned upside
down – reflections from above –
a morning pondscape

That red fox standing
on the bank above the road,
watching the cars go
by, recalled for me simple
pleasures like sitting
on the sidelines, watching, as
the game played out before me.

No windy bluster –
just a faint whisper of white
on this icy morn

How bad can a day
that begins with tangerine
clouds turn out to be?

Those tangerine clouds
have drifted on over to
Mondo Sedoka,
a joint blog written by two
poets: my brave son and me.

Big night.
Stars bright.
All the spectators tonight.
I’ve trained for days
and tonight’s the night.
“ You sound great,”
they say but
all I think is how absurd!
My voice isn’t ready.
My voice isn’t there.
But
then I say, “Hold on.
I’ve been told I’m ready.
I’ve been told I’m good
…
I’m there!”
I lift up my head
high and proud.
All I want is to sing it out loud.
I’m here.
I’m ready.
My time is now.
