Granny Natters

My absent-minded granddaughters

are so upset with me

and for what reason

I really fail to see.

As they headed out the door

on this icy morn,

I did my granny thing

and asked,

 not even plaintively,

“Remembered to wear shoes?”

–  and, oh, the scorn.

Cherished Gifts

Rooted solidly

among family and friends, I

cherish the gift of

belonging but soon hope to

recover the gift,

temporarily misplaced,

of silence and solitude.

( With special thanks to my friend Tish  for the evocative phrase, “the gift of silence and solitude”.)

She Has Her Reasons

Without thought of personal gain,

accolades or acclaim,

she plays

because

she likes the game.

At Water’s Edge

Tucked behind those trees,

at stilled water’s edge,

two young girls

watch an ancient

 feminine mystery unfold

as moon reflects upon herself.

                                                                                                    JDG

surveying the day

ahead, I decide to go

back to bed

Thanks But No Thanks

A Valentine’s Day Tree?

You’ve got to be kidding me.

This year’s Christmas tree needs to retain its dignity.

There will be no morphing into a tree

of hearts or bunnies or flags or pumpkins.

Take it down, my lazy bumpkins.

Simple Rituals

Simple rituals

start and end the day – morning

coffee, evening wine.

And?

Incomplete gestalts,

 pauses pregnant

with what’s not yet

said, leave

us poised on

possibilities’

narrow

ledge at that

moment

right

before we …

Not Yet

Finally having

come to earth, that snow is quite

reluctant to go.

Horse Sense

“Humans!” that horse seemed

to snort, gazing at the road

as we drove by. “There

they go tooting along in

their rolling boxes,

nodding wisely and speaking

knowingly of horse

power. No wonder the world

is in such dubious shape!”
