As the trees stand watch
sun and moon rise and fall,
crows squawk, jays squabble,
dark clouds gather then disperse,
hawks soar, rabbits hide,
squirrels gather, the pond reflects.
Trees and pond have much to teach.

This year the blaze of Autumn soon flamed out,
making me think
the climate
must be
rigged.

Home alone – just me,
a cat and two dogs – a rare
and restful respite.

I had hoped for deep
wisdom or at least some peace
when I first began
to meditate, but that’s not
what I got. Instead
there was a quick review of
failures, foolishness,
and flaws. When I signed on I
didn’t expect to
start with all those F’s. “Isdom”,
is that where true wisdom starts?

After the rain,
just before the break of day,
there’s a quickening
among the trees.
Dawn is approaching.
They will enter the light refreshed.

You could almost see
the wheels of their minds turning
as Thanksgiving neared
and they searched for a way
to politely vote no
regarding Gaba’s green bean casserole.

Gold lined clouds at start
of day. Is it an omen
or a golden tease?
