Today I Feast

Hummingbird whirring

among indigo blossoms –

nectar for the soul.

Here and Now

Start where you are. You’ve

gotten this far by step and

misstep. Maybe you

missed the boat and took the plane –

you arrived right here

just the same. Now the only

way forward starts from this spot.

Recalibration

Friends helped me pull the circuit breaker that

stopped the crazy

circular

loop of

thought

and

feeling

running through

my system. Once

stilled, I felt a sudden surge of wisdom.

Sunsational

Despite the steady

drizzle and overcast sky,

sunlight still resides

in scatterings of daisies,

smiling as we drive by.

I Know

I know those deer eat

my flowers and cause my dogs

to bark, but somehow

their long-limbed beauty lassos

my complaints and leaves me deerstruck.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                     JDG

On Reflection

I’d like to think it was me and not its

own reflection

that drew that

sparrow

to

my

window –

ah it’s back –

that eternal

 romantic versus realist duel.

The Gift

I breathe in

the gift of Infinite Spirit.

I pause.

I breathe out

what my human self

has done with this gift

and what that gift

has done with me.

I breathe in.

I pause.

I breathe out –

until at last

my human self

takes its final breath

and returns

to a place

beyond human form.

We Never Know

We never know when

or where or how it will come –

in a sudden burst

or a slow dawn. Maybe we’re

eyeing a bottle

of olives in a grocery

store. We might be stopped

at a red light or putting

on our socks. Perhaps

we’re mowing the yard or we’re

waiting for a friend

who is almost always late.

The particulars

don’t matter. What matters is

that inspiration does come.

Singing In The Rain

Almost hidden by the leaves

a small bird sings, waiting for

the drizzling rain and orange cat

to disappear. Out on the pond

three ducks glide

undeterred by cat or rain.

Author’s Challenge

What will you choose to write on tomorrow’s

page of the book

you’ve come to

call your

life ?
