this Christmas season.
Neither gobbled all the food
or flew home to tweet a mood.

for gift openings, grandkids
talk loudly and long,
leading me to seek refuge
in rebuttal, wine, and song.

Here in Virginia
the heavens celebrated
the Christmas Season
with a full moon followed by
meteor showers –
a double reminder of
the Christmas promise.

kids and dogs quickly scatter,
leaving me with vacuum’s hum.
