You may eat anything in the garden
except for the
fruit of that
one tree.
It’s
hard
for us
humans not
to focus on
what we can’t have and lose sight of the rest.

“What are you staring at?”
a young girl asks.
The nursing home patient says,
“My dog. She’s leaving now.
I don’t know when
I’ll see her again.”
With this, The Three Wishes
project began and a fund-raiser started.
“If I could bring you 3 things
in the whole world,
what would those be?” she asked the residents.
Some answers – A fast-food meal,
a warmer blanket, a visit from my pet,
new shoes, Cheetos, a pair of pants
that fit, a trip to a near-by waterpark.
She asked. She listened. She acted.
And now many lives are brighter.

Behold the water bear
microorganism extraordinaire,
survivor of five mass extinctions
in half a billion years,
withstander of minus 328

radiation, and outer space.
Even if we don’t make it,
it looks like they will.

Wanted to share this wonderful Groundhog Day post from LuAnne.

Every day the same, yet
every day is different
no guaranteed success
no guarantee of failure
just a day with endless possibilities
so, write if you’re a writer
paint if you’re a painter
play if you love music
cook if that’s your art
snap a shot if that’s your thing
tend a garden, tidy up
sew or dance or ice sculpt
practice being kind
do creative work each day
there is no starting point
there is no destination
joy is in in the journey
Every year on February 2, at my house we celebrate this American holiday by watching Groundhog Day – again! Recently I reread an article by Austin Kleon called, Want to be an artist? Watch Groundhog Day,that discusses how the main character of the movie, Phil Connors, discovers a key to practicing the art of life. This post was inspired by Austin Kleon’s article…

All I wanted was to share
a small speck of her sandwich
and she made the biggest fuss.
Is this the thanks I get
for aerating her garden
and helping seeds and sprouts to grow?
I think I’ll go organize a protest march
and storm her kitchen counter.

Today yet another chance to notice how often I am wrong. How easily my voice puts on its business suit and power pumps and exudes confidence— how sure I am that I am right! And then, when confronted with the real truth, what to do but laugh at the…
With each passing year
I hope to become more like
the jeans I love to
wear – comfortable, long lasting,
and well, but gently, worn.
