She must have had her reasons,
but why that mother bird
chose to build her nest
in that shallow bin
on my porch, I don’t know.
Still, I’m glad for the company.

When I default to blame,
I fail to see
“de” fault may lie with me.

Each day I wonder
why yesterday’s resolve
is so soon forgotten.
Each day I wake up and try again.
I know I won’t unfailingly remember,
but practice definitely
increases my odds.

Sun shines,
wind blows,
rain falls,
trees sway-
summer’s musical dance.

When I find myself
getting all worked up over
a misplaced piece of paper,
may I not paper over it.
May I pause, breathe in frustration
and breathe out peace.

Are you back
from your travels yet?
We know you’ve been
to Worryville with stopovers
in What If and Might Have Been.
You like to vacation
in the Past and visit Futureland.
We just want you to know
we’ve missed you
and would love to have you join us
here in Nowsville.
Sincerely,
Heart and Soul

Don’t hold me accountable.
What appears on this page
was not wholly
my doing…or
maybe it was.
Mind, arm, hand, fingers, heart, breath
all were involved,
and the result is these markings
which some parts of me
call poetry though others would disagree.

The weather today
couldn’t make up its mind. Should
it rain? Should it shine?

.
That sprightly blue line
of roadside bachelor buttons
cheers us on our way.

Alone in the dark,
he cries out for relevance,
love, being unfamiliar.
