Whatever song fills your throat, that’s the song
your body wants
to sing. Just
listen
close.

Though I don’t control the traffic,
when a word, a line, sometimes a poem,
approaches the intersection
of conscious and unconscious,
I bear witness
and write down what I see.

While attending to
what’s right in front of me,
I spot, off to the side,
two cardinals
tiptoeing through the clover –
a bright reminder of what
I yearn to do .

Everywhere I look,
within or without, what I
see depends on me.

Storms might be coming
but for now, sun and puffy
white clouds fill the sky.
Bees and butterflies flit from
flower to flower,
deer graze, squirrels scamper, crows
bicker, and I watch and rest.

Just now,
after being on this planet
for over seventy-six years,
I finally feel my feet on this earth.
I am here.
For now…

I want to meet each moment
as a friend.
My presence is needed.

(With thanks to Sylvia Boorstein)
They brought a smile to my face,
those four ( two cats and two dogs ),
when I got home. There they were
resting in the same sun-lit room,
sharing the afternoon together.
Spotting me, they exchanged a glance,
as if to say, “What brings her home so early?”

I have opinions.
Genuine questions might serve me better,
but who has the time
in this fast-paced world
to ask and listen?
From within the answer comes,
“You do. Get real.”

Since early May I’ve watched
corn grow. Every day the rows
seem taller and more full.
It may sound corny, but I wish
the inner seeds I planted then
were as bountiful as that corn.
If I had been more nourishing
maybe they’d be thriving now.
