Those mourning doves dine
unperturbed by warring jays
and feisty squirrels.
Would that I could sit serene
amid life’s fuss and flurry.

Pink clouds mingle with
grey. The sky teaches us how
to hold differences.

Boundaries that allow
for connected separateness
aren’t too soft
or too hard
when we dance well together.

The earth lay beneath
a misty blanket of fog
but birds and squirrels
were not deterred and let me
know breakfast could still be served.

Knowing that the storyteller within
weaves all kinds of tales,
we can listen
with interest without
getting caught in the web.

Against a blue sky
Cardinals sit perched
on a white blossomed tree
bidding farewell to February,
welcoming the approach of Spring.

Though storms
may be on the horizon,
they’re not here now.
Let’s relish this moment
and hold space for the next.

You can have the afternoon,”
Winter said to Spring.

The sun, it seemed,
gave me a wink.
“Don’t let this day’s cold
get you down.
It’s winter’s last hurrah.”
