Together

A purple unity,

formed by each separate blossom

carpets the roadside.

May we also form a unity,

not of color but of care,

and carpet the world.

Cloudy Weather

A grey bank of clouds –

a small opening –

a glimmer of light.

There are days

when my mind’s like that too.

Double Take

Unexpected tears – saw a white-haired man

walking his dog,

remembered

I’m old

too.

Then

I saw

another,

more important,

truth. That old man and I are still walking.

Entrenched Habits

Sometimes we think

 we’re well on our way

to a new destination

only to discover the path

 is longer than we thought.

Feline First Responder

Murphy peers through the glass door,

keeping watch. You never know

who or what might appear,

but Murphy is alert and ready.

We can step back and relax.

Murphy’s got this and she’s steady

Golden Moments

When forsythia reaches out

to give the world a hug,

Spring smiles back, inviting us

to reach out too.

Haiku

It’s just seventeen

syllables and I can’t seem

to come up with one.

A Budding Romance?

For days now,

those two mourning doves

have eaten side by side

and just yesterday

they nuzzled against each other.

They’re taking it slow, but each day

they grow closer to one another.

Would that we humans were as patient

and as wise.
