Taking it easy,
that squirrel, that dove,
lie down to eat,
leaving me to ponder
their recent display of sloth.
JDG.
Taking it easy,
that squirrel, that dove,
lie down to eat,
leaving me to ponder
their recent display of sloth.
JDG.
Beyond and within
the wilderness of words
we glimpse the divine.
JDG
The discomfort of
not knowing,
the impatient desire
to finally arrive
at an answer,
a solution,
a destination…
Oh, the human folly
of it all when
here, now, right before us,
the sun ignites the trees
with green fire
and the squirrel scratches
his head in astonishment.
JDG
From nothing and everything we come.
To nothing and everything we return.
Meanwhile…
JDG.
When mind and heart take
off on an anxious journey,
writing guides me home.
JDG
Leaping from rail
to branch to trunk,
squirrels perform
their acrobatic routine.
The jays are not impressed.
JDG
Why did that bird, that squirrel,
that rabbit, that deer
take that path and not another?
Why do any of us
take the paths we do?
JDG
After endless days
of heat and rain
come cooler days
and smiling sun.
Fall’s around the bend.
JDG
You who know no boundaries of time and space,
please help us see
into the
heart of
things.
JDG
I don’t know what it is
about this place
that the toads seem to trust,
but when I opened
the door for the cat,
her toad friend hopped in.
The next thing I know
he’ll probably request
a tonic with gin.
