A sigh of pleasure
when I discover
even with a mask
I can breathe in
the fresh scents of Spring.

A sigh of pleasure
when I discover
even with a mask
I can breathe in
the fresh scents of Spring.

A tiny sparrow
and a large cardinal
dine side by side
on the wide porch railing.
No need to rush.

As trees and flowers
bud and bloom,
it leads me to ask what is
budding and blooming
in me and in you?
JDG
One that would prevent
indifference and cruelty
and promote
compassion and care –
What? We’ve had them
for centuries?
They’re called meditation and prayer?
JDG
An unexpected
gift of time allows me to
begin the day more
slowly, to linger with doves,
cardinals, and jays as they dine.
JDG
Sunny, but windy
and a bit cold.
Let’s play down
windy and cold
and amplify sunny.
JDG
Forsythia’s joy
can’t be quenched, not even by
this sudden downpour.
Its golden branches greet all
that comes with a welcoming wave.
JDG
When tensions flare,
what if
we looked for
the divine
that’s also there?
JDG
Dark tree branches etched
against evening’s scarlet sky –
beauty at day’s end.
JDG
Moonlight falls
on porch
and lawn,
covering them
with momentary,
look-alike snow.
