can be frightening,
but beneath the storm-tossed surface
a stillness can be found.

watching the tiny blue butterfly
circle close to his furry head.

What do they make of each other?

Flying birds,
running deer,
hopping rabbits
darting butterflies,
and lumbering me…
we all make our home here
among the flowers and the trees.

White blooming clover
and yellow buttercups join
wild strawberries
to take over the lawn. Bees
and butterflies cheer them on.

The sky was as clear
as your laugh, the sun as bright
as your spirit on the day
a bald eagle came
to guide you home.

The days are wrapped
in a loose cloak of green –
the perfect garment
for this ever-shifting weather.

Sometimes talk so fills
the day that more words refuse
to come and speak on paper.

so much on the weeds
that I fail to see the flowers.
