Now that the cold’s come
I’d like to reconsider
my former complaints.
Let’s let bygones be bygones
and invite the warm days back.

I’d like to reconsider
my former complaints.
Let’s let bygones be bygones
and invite the warm days back.

A flurry of snow –
kids’ and parents’ hearts both miss
a beat on the kids’
first day back at school, but for
very different reasons.

Though the evening stars
beckon and the moon invites,
on cold nights like this
I would prefer not to be
on the outside looking in.

How will the way I
look at things change what I see?
How will what I see
change me? What will it mean to
look at the world with soft eyes?
JDG
Still struggling after
all these years to keep my tongue
leashed and to control
fast flow to my lungs so gusts
of hot air are not released.

Before the sun has
risen, they have. These kids, who
seldom stir themselves
when school’s in session, leap to
greet said sun this Christmas break.
JDG
I’d like to say there’s
a time for every season
under heaven, but
what’s with this year’s strange WinSpring
thing when we could have some snow?
JDG
When profundity
lies out of reach and even
the mundane retreats,
it’s time to set pen aside
and dance to a different beat.
JDG
Whoops! It seems there’s been
some confusion this Christmas
and the reindeer have
somehow strangely morphed into
some very unwelcome rain, dear.

December family
birthday party – a happy
celebration of
presence and the present,
a feast of laughter and tall tales.
