Despite the steady
drizzle and overcast sky,
sunlight still resides
in scatterings of daisies,
smiling as we drive by.

I know those deer eat
my flowers and cause my dogs
to bark, but somehow
their long-limbed beauty lassos
my complaints and leaves me deerstruck.

Trunks, branches, and leaves –
a dark pattern woven on
the blue background of
a dawn-bright sky – morning’s
ever-changing tapestry

far away from here and now,
whisked away once more
by my swinging monkey mind
in search of yon banana.

of time into my arms, hold
it near my beating
heart, cherish it breath by breath
as it yawns and stretches.

to the finish line –
or are we just trying to
outrun “running out of time”?
JDG
Even if it is
just one word, if it’s the right

you feeling energized – you
know you’ll cross the finish line.
