Damp with morning dew,
the lawn shimmers in the sun,
welcomes everyone
even unruly squirrels
and harshly complaining crows.

Though the skies are gray,
the day looks bright with so much
still to celebrate.
Past, present, and future join
in a harmonious song.

The gathering clouds
block the sun. but not for long.
The cardinals and I
herald its return, they with
song and I with a smile.

The flowers promised
to bring splashes of color
to rainy spring days
and were soon invited for
an extended dalliance.

A small fish swims near
the pond’s shore then suddenly
turns and swims away.
Was it answering a call
my human ears could not hear?

Grey clouds crowd the sky
leaving no room for the sun,
but still the birds sing
helping us to see that there’s
always a song to be sung

Tiny bits of green
peek out from outstretched branches
testing if the time
is right for them to spring forth
and grace us with their presence.

A moment ago
a mother deer and her fawn
dashed across the lawn
pursued by the moon’s slow rise
and an owl’s questioning cry.
